55th Blessing of the Fleet

The Week of Blessings is an annual event that calls the community together in prayer and celebration of all that makes Destin special.

It’s really about building unity … an effort to bring the community together, said Mel Ponder, the CEO/President of Business Empowered and a Week of Blessings organizer.

This is the ninth year since Ponder and Capt. Mike Parker founded the event. We’re very excited that the community can have an event like this that we can rally around, Ponder said. Each day focuses on a different segment of the community.

St. Mary's Spring Fling

FORT WALTON BEACH — The 23rd Annual St. Mary’s Spring Fling will be held April 14-18 at the C.H. “Bull” Rigdon Fairgrounds at 1958 Lewis Turner Blvd.

Admission and parking are free. It is the same Spring Fling area families and visitors have enjoyed for years. It’s just moved from the church grounds to behind the fairground buildings to allow more room for the midway rides and games and the food court.

Four license-free fishing days in Florida start April 7

Grab your fishing rods and tackle box. It’s almost time – April 7 – to take advantage of the first of four license-free fishing days scheduled for this summer in Florida.

The days are perfect chances for parents, who don’t yet have a license, to take youth fishing, or for avid anglers to introduce a friend to the recreational pursuit without having to purchase a license.
